The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday threw into the bin President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for approval to borrow about $30bn foreign funds as senators overwhelmingly voted against it.
President Buhari had last week written to the Senate, requesting for approval to source external loan.
When the matter was moved for deliberation by the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, the senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye sought to lead debate on the matter, but he was rebuffed by Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
However, when it was eventually subjected to a voice vote, the ‘Nays’ vote chant was defeaning.
