After reportedly returning N100million and pledging to refund another N480million, a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has breathed the air of freedom as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) released him, Checkpointcharley has authoritatively learnt.
EFCC sources said “Senator Obanikoro was released around 5pm. He is on his way home now.”
The former minister had been detained since 17 October on accusation of receiving N4.7bn through the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014.
Obanikoro allegedly pocketed N785m and gave the balance to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Senator Iyiola Omisore who was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State in 2014.
