Former media adviser to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reuben Abati has walked away from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, a free man after his release by the anti-graft agency.
Abati confirmed his release to journalists on Saturday morning, saying however he was still in Abuja. He is domiciled in Lagos.
Abati is accused of receiving N50 million from detained former National Security Adviser, Mr. Sambo Dasuki for the 2015 presidential election campaign. The ex-presidential spokesman however said he distributed the money to journalists and did not keep records of recipients.
After agreeing to pay back N5 million, Abati later made a dramatic u-turn when he told the EFCC that he had no dime anywhere to give to the commission. This prolonged his stay in custody, aside from the fact that he had difficulties meeting his administrative bail conditions.
