FG Re-Arraigns IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, and other persons  were on Tuesday re-arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on amended 11 counts, bothering on terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods.

This is third time the IPOB leader will be arraigned. The re-arraignment was due to Kanu’s accusation of the former judge, Justice John Tsoho, of bias.

The first charges filed on December 18, 2015 had only six counts with exclusion of terrorism which is now the 11th count in the new charges filed on November 11, 2016. Kanu was charged alongside Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.

However, in the amended charges filed by the new Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Mr. Umar Mohammed, the National Coordinator of IPOB member, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe, was added to bring the number of accused persons to four.

Kanu and other accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

Justice Nyako adjourned the case till November 17 for hearing of the accused persons bail application. They are to remain in custody till then.
