The Super Eagles of Nigeria have defeated the Desert Foxes of Algeria 3-1 to go four points clear on top of their World Cup qualifying group after Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Zambia on Saturday.
In-form Chelsea winger, Victor Moses, who got a brace, put his country in front after 26 minutes with a low shot from inside the area after Algeria’s Hicham Belkaroui fumbled in clearing the ball out of the danger.
He was at hand again to secure victory after Nabil Bentaleb had caused a nervous finish by pulling one goal back in the 67th minute after his Chelsea teammate Mikel Obi made it 2-0 three minutes before halftime.
The defeat dealt Algeria’s world cup chances a heavy blow as they now sit bottom of Group B with only one point. Nigeria have six points from two matches.
Cameroon is at a distant second with two points after the indomitable failed to subdue visiting Zambia at home.
