World number one, Andy Murray of Britain has beaten world number two, Novak Djorkovic of Serbia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 to win the ATP Men final in London.
The victory helped the newly crowned number one to end the year on top of men tennis. The Serbian could have regained the top spot if he had beaten Murray. But Murray was not in the mood to relinquish the number one position he captured at the Paris Masters in early November as he dominated and thrashed his challenger in straight sets.
Murray was hardly threatened. He only lost his serve once and it was in the second set after breaking Djorkovic twice and led 4-1 but stayed composed to finish him off 6-4 in that final set. However, Murray showed nerves at the end, as he failed to convert two match balls after leading 30-0 in the final game. The Serbian forced him to deuce twice before going down at the third match ball.
Murray became the first British player to become world number one and end the year as the best in Men’s tennis since computerised ranking started in 1973.
