England star Dele Alli brilliantly nodded home twice to salvage his side’s title hopes and inflict on record chasing league leaders Chelsea their first league loss in 101 days in a 2-0 pounding at White Hart Lane.
Dele Alli nodded home twice to thwart their London rivals bid to equal Arsenal’s record of 14 straight league victories. The England international has now scored two goals in every game since Christmas. He has now scored 10 league goals this season (six goals in four matches) in just 19 appearances.
When it had looked as if the first half would end goalless, Christian Eriksen sent a pin-point cross to Alli, who virtually hung in the air for some seconds before directing his header into the corner of the net for 1-0 Spurs.
In the 54th minute, Alli made it 2-0 worse for the Blues. Again a cross from Eriksen and Alli converted with a towering header.
Alli’s double salvaged his team’s title hopes and at the same time dented that of Antonio Conte’s men. Spurs are now 3rd on the table with 42 points, seven points behind leaders, Chelsea.
