Senator Ali Ndume has been removed as the majority leader of the Nigerian Senate.

This was conveyed by Senate President Bukola Saraki, who read a letter he said was sent to him by the caucus of All Progressives Congress members in the Red Chamber.

The caucus elected Ahmed Lawan to replace Ndume, the letter read by Mr. Saraki said.

Talking to journalists after the Senate’s plenary, Mr. Ndume said the decision to remove him as majority leader shocked him. He added that he was unaware of the reason behind the action of tghe caucus.

But it may not be unconnected with Senate’s rejection of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Recall that Senator Ndume had said that the Senate did not reject Magu, even when that did not reflect the position of the Senate. This was later corrected by Senate spokesperson, Aliyu Abdullahi.

Both Ndume and Magu hail from Borno State.
