The Nigerian Army said on Wednesday that it has recovered the bodies of sixteen soldiers declared missing about six weeks ago.
Lucky Irabor, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole announced that their bodies were dumped in River Yobe in Northeast Nigeria.
The dead include one officer and fifteen soldiers.
The sixteen personnel should be part of the 46 officially declared missing by the Army.
“The corpses were recovered along Kamadogou River line area in Maiduguri,” Mr. Irabor, a major general, said.
The killed officer was named as K. Yusuf, a lieutenant colonel.
It is understood that he was the commander of Nigerian Army 223 Tank Battalion.
“They have since been buried in Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery with full military honours,” Irabor said.
