Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday sent a letter to the country’s Senate, informing the legislators that he will be proceeding on a 10-day leave.

Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on Thursday read the letter at the plenary, in which Buhari said while he proceeds on leave, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo would be president in acting capacity.

The letter partly read: “I will be away on a 10-day working vacation as part of my 2017 annual leave from Monday, January 23 to Monday, February 6, 2017.

“While I am away, the Vice President performs the functions of my office. Please, accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

The Presidency has explained that Buhari’s 10-day vacation is for medical check-ups.

The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in a twitter post few minutes after Buhari’s letter was read at the floor of the Senate, stated that the president will be going to the United Kingdom on short leave.

“PMB goes to UK today on short leave. He resumes on Feb 6. While away, he will do routine medical check-ups. VP Osinbajo acts as President,” Adesina said in his tweet.
