Gambia’s new President Adama Barrow said on Friday said that the ex-President Yahya Jammeh “has agreed to step down”. The president-elect confirmed this on his Twitter handle @adama_barrow.
Jammeh had refused to handover power after losing the Presidential election on December 1. He has ruled the small West African country for 22 years.
Barrow said Jammeh would also leave the country. He tweeted:
I would like to inform you that Yahya Jammeh has agreed to step down. He is scheduled to depart Gambia today. #NewGambia
