President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday poured more fuel into the fire of speculations engulfing the state of his health by extending indefinitely his 10-day medical vacation which he started penultimate week.
The extension was disclosed by a three-paragraph statement released to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
Buhari has already sent a letter to the National Assembly on the extension, but he did not specify the duration of the extension.
The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly today, February 5, 2017, informing of his desire to extend his leave in order to complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.
“The President had planned to return to Abuja this (Sunday) evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning. The notice has since been dispatched to the Senate President, and Speaker, House of Representatives.
“Mr. President expresses his sincere gratitude to Nigerians for their concern, prayers and kind wishes.”
Buhari has been in the United Kingdom, where he has been receving health care that is not available to millions of Nigerians.
There were rumours that he had died in a London hospital. But the Presidency refuted them.
This indefinite extension will trigger more rumours.
