The Federal High Court, Kano has ordered that the $9.8 million and 74,000 pounds found in a house belonging to Andrew Yakubu be forfeited to the Nigerian government.

Justice Zainab Abubakar ordered the forfeiture on Tuesday, following an ex parte application by the EFCC seeking an interim forfeiture of the recovered money to the Federal Government.

Justice Zainab ordered “That the sum of $9,772,000 (Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Seventy Two Thousand United States Dollars) and £74,000 (Seventy Four Thousand Pound Sterling) which are now in the custody of the applicant (EFCC) are in the interim forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria”

Recall that the EFCC last Friday made public the recovery of the said money (about N3 billion) from a Kaduna home of the former NNPC Managing Director.

Mr. Yakubu has admitted owning the money and already in EFCC custody.

Yakubu’s case further supports the view held by CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that Nigeria’s commonwealth has remained a bounty to be shared by a callous elite. Which is why the country, which would have been a shinning light on the West Coast, has been unable to offer its citizens the basic things of life that would have differentiated us from our animal cousins.

If you could imagine that the type of money found in Yakubu’s bungalow, could be found in the house and bank accounts of almost every Nigerian who had held a position of trust similar to his, then you would get a picture why there is still no light, water, roads, railway, healthcare, security etc in Nigeria. And that is why there is recession.
