President Muhammadu Buhari with Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara
Despite recession, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Mr Bukola Saraki will be spending tax payers’ money as he leads a four-member delegation of National Assembly members to see President Muhammadu Buhari in London.
The Speaker of the lower house, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, his deputy, Yusuf Lasun, and Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, are all on the entourage to see the president who is on a medical vacation in the United Kingdom. Buhari departed the country on January 19 for what was supposed to be a 10-day vacation on January 19, but he later extended the trip indefinitely.
Wole Oladimeji, Mr. Lasun’s spokesperson confirmed to Premium Times that the leaders have left the country to see the president.
He however pointed out that his boss will not be leaving until tomorrow due to an ongoing gathering of ECOWAS parliamentarians in Abuja.
Both Vice President Osinbajo and Saraki had claimed that they spoke with the president and that “he is hale and hearty”. So why the trip?
Buhari on his own chose to shun been treated by Nigerian hospitals. So should public money be wasted in flying public officers to see a president who refused to patronise Nigerian doctors?
