At least five persons were beheaded as rival cultists engaged in a battle for supremacy in Egbeda community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A community source confirmed to the Punch that the Icelanders and Greenlanders cult groups had engaged in a bloody war over who holds sway in the community.

The source narrated a chilling story of how cultists went on rampage, killing and beheading their victims. No fewer than five people were killed, the source said.

According to him the head of one of their victims was pinned on a stick at the community’s market square as a trophy.

“Several people have been killed now in the community. I saw about five people. The boys are killing and cutting off people’s heads. There is fear in the community, so people are moving out,” he said.

Another resident of the area, simply identified as Uche, said he was going to stay with his relatives in Port Harcourt.

Uche said the shooting started on Wednesday night, narrating how warring cultists roamed freely in the community, as security operatives were no where to be seen.

He called on the government for quick intervention, as residents who had fled their homes were wondering “aimlessly” in neighbouring communities.

He said, “There is panic in the community. I don’t know the actual number of people killed, but they have killed more than five people since the incident started.

“We are calling on the government and security operatives to intervene. Our people are suffering; right now, they are in other communities.”

Spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni is yet to comment on the incident after being contacted.
