A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Joe Agi has implicated President Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyer in Justice Adeniyi Ademola corruption saga.

Mr. Agi, who is being prosecuted alongside Justice Adeniyi Ademola of a Federal High Court told the Department of the State Service, DSS, that President Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyer, Mr. Kola Awodein paid N500,000 during Buhari’s certificate case.

It is still unclear if the president’s lawyer acted alone, or with the consent of his client.

Agi said Mr. Awodein paid the money to Justice Ademola in 2015 at the time the judge was presiding over the certificate case.

Agi told the DSS investigator that the sum of N500,000 paid to Justice Ademola by Awodein was not meant to be a bribe but a gift for the wedding ceremony of judge’s daughter.

This was revealed on Tuesday when a DSS investigator, Mr. Babatunde Adepoju was being cross-examined by defence lawyers at a High Court Maitama, Abuja. He was the 16th prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of Justice Ademola, his wife, Olabowale and Agi.

He confirmed that Agi had given the information to him during the investigation of the case against the defendants.

Adepoju also confirmed that Agi confessed during nterrogation that the sum of N30m was the money contributed by his and Justice Ademola’s mutual friends for the judge’s daughter’s wedding ceremony.

The money was paid to Olabowale’s (Ademola’s wife) account, he said Agi told him.

Justice Ademola, his wife, Olabowale; and Agi, are being prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on charges, including receiving and giving gratification to influence the course of justice.
