A soldier with 72 Battalion, Makurdi, Benue State, simply identified as Corporal Bashir, has been accused of sodomizing a 15-year-old boy, James Usar.
Usar is said to be a mechanic apprentice, living in the Yagba area of North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi.
The youth leader in the area, Raymond Asema said Usar has been working on the soldier’s vehicle for some time before the incident.
According to him, Bashir, in his scheme, had lodged in a hotel in the area, White House Hotel, and had asked the boy to come to his room to help him wash some clothes.
Asema said, “He deliberately delayed the boy in his hotel room until he slept off. Around 2am, he sodomized the boy.
“The following day, the soldier sent the boy away, only for the corporal to later mobilize other soldiers to arrest the boy, accusing him of stealing N200,000. He was taken to the barracks where he was beaten up.”
The 72 Battalion army spokesman, Captain Ohegb confirmed receipt of a complaint concerning the soldier and said that it has been forwarded to the corporal’s present place of assignment in the North-East.
