CHECKPOINTCHARLEY has been reliably informed by National Assembly sources that Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) , Babachir David Lawal on Thursday made a dramatic U-turn in the face-off with Senators over the grass-cutting scandal as he has asked the Senate Committee probing the use of Funds for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) to reschedule the date for him to appear.
Recall that on Wednesday, Lawal wrote Chairman of the Committee, Senator Shehu Sani saying he would not appear because he has gone to court to challenge his invitation.
But in a new letter to the Committee dated March 22, 2017, the SGF said he would not be able to honour the invitation “primarily because of a pressing engagement of government which clashed with the date and time of the hearing.”
The purport of the said letter is that he is asking for a new date. It is a softening of his earlier stance that he would not appear before the upper house based on a suit he filed in court, challenging the invitation.
More details later…
