The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye on Wednesday filed a N5 billion libel suit against an online media platform, SaharaReporters for allegedly defaming his character and propagating injurious falsehood against his person.
Melaye’s media office said the suit was filed at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court.
SaharaReporters, had in a report alleged that Melaye did not complete his first degree in Geography at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Based on the report, the Senate on Tuesday refered the matter to its Ethics and Privileges Committee for investigation. The committee was directed to investigate the claim that Melaye did not graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Melaye however told CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that he got his first degree several years ago and that he is presently a postgraduate student of the same univeristy. He wondered how someone that does not possess a first degree could be doing his masters.
The senator sees himself as a victim of a smear campaign by those uncomfortable with his rising political profile.
