US House Votes To Replace Obamacare

US House Chamber in session

The United States House of Representatives has on Thursday voted for a bill to repeal and replace the US Affordable Health Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, after a seven-year quest to do that. CHECKPOINTCHARLEY gathered that the Republican members headed to the White House after the vote to celebrate in Rose Garden with President Donald Trump, who had promised during campaign to repeal and replace Obamacare.

The bill narrowly passed with 217 to 213 votes. And only Republicans voted for its passage, which goes to underline the stormy ride the bill will have in the United States Senate.

217 Republicans voted in favour, while 20 voted against. Interestingly no Democrat voted in favour of the bill.

The vote was a desperate move by the Republicans to achieve something before they go and face their constituents during recess. Despite today’s vote, Obamacare is still not repealed until the bill also sails through the US Senate.

It is now left to be seen if the bill will also pass in the Senate. Pundits see it as unlikely.
