BREAKING: Acting President Osinbajo Presides Over FEC

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo

Nigerian Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding over a meeting of the country’s Federal Executive Council. The meeting started around 10am at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari had changed the time of the weekly  meeting from 10am to 11am after he returned from a medical trip in March.

Mr. Buhari had on Sunday returned to London for what the presidency described as a medical follow-up.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian polity is presently heated up over the controversial handover letter President Buhari sent to the Senate before he departed for the United Kingdom on medical leave.

In the letter Buhari had said that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will coordinate the activities of government in his absence, instead of expressly saying that he will be acting president.

CHECKPOINTCHARLEY sees the debate as unnecessary because the constitution is clear on the matter. Osinbajo, in view of constitutional provisions, Mr. Osinbajo becomes the acting president once the president proceeds on leave, irrespective of what Buhari wrote in his letter.
