
A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, accused of gigantic corruption, was on Friday granted bail by an Abuja High Court with a bond of N500 million.
The former minister, former member of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s kitchen cabinet, is accused of fraudulently receiving over N800 million as gratification while in office as minister. He is also charged with failing to declare his assets.
Justice Abubakar Talba, who had remanded Mr. Mohammed in Kuje Maximum Prison on Wednesday pending the determination of his bail application, ruled that he should produce two sureties with an equivalent sum as indicated in the bail bond. And the two sureties must have landed properties in Abuja, and must also show evidence of tax payments in the last three years for the properties.
The judge also ordered that the sureties must comprise one senator and a federal civil servant of directorate cadre and then adjourned till July 4 for trial.
