The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday in Abuja dismissed the 18-count charge of false asset declaration filed against the Senate President, Bulola Saraki.

The two-man panel of the CCT led by Danladi Umar unanimously upheld Saraki’s no-case submission, saying that the evidence led by the prosecution was rubbished under cross-examination and therefore cannot ground a conviction.

The tribunal was of the view that no reasonable tribunal would convict a defendant on the evidence led by the prosecution, who had relied on four witnesses.

In entering a no-case submission before the CCT on May 26, 2017, Saraki argued through his lawyer that none of the exhibits tendered and no evidence given by the four prosecution witnesses linked him to the alleged offences to warrant him to defend the charges.

The three-man tribunal agreed and ruled that the prosecution had not brought enough evidence to continue the trial.

It therefore discharged and acquitted Saraki of all wrongdoings and struck out the case.
