Gunmen Abduct Seven Passengers In Rivers

Governor Nyesom Wike

The insecurity in Rivers State Nigeria was thickly underlined on Friday when the Police said that unknown gunmen  abducted seven passengers  from a commercial bus, travelling from Omoku to Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The abduction took place Wednesday evening along Omoku-Elele Road, police spokesman in the state, Nnamdi Omoni told the press.

As at the time of filing this report, the passengers are yet to be rescued. But according to Mr. Omoni the passengers’ manifest is with the police and the abandoned bus, in which they were travelling before the incident, has been recovered. He thinks that the passengers may have been taken inside the bush by their abductors.

“The abductors  came with three motorcycles. One of the motorcycles has been recovered, with the bus.

“We understand that they (the passengers) were taken into one of the bushes around. We are combing the bushes.

“We have found cuts on the body of the vehicles, suggesting that they may have attacked the bus before forcing the driver to stop,” the police spokeman said.

Despite the amnesty programme of Governor Nyesom Wike, insecurity in Rivers remains alarming.
