
Terrific pictures of Lagos in floods show what happens when people, as typical of Nigerians, expect that all would fall into place so far as there is God – as they would normally say. The pictures below indicate what befalls an unplanned city, where buildings are allowed to spring up everywhere, without planning. And without a good drainage system that is regularly checked in place.
The question is, when would the correction start? We can never move forward pretending that all is well. Whether we like it or not, fact remains that many parts of Nigerian need to be demolished, re-planned and rebuilt to turn them into modern and safe habitations.
If you walk down a typical Nigerian housing estate, you would marvel at how people extend their walls beyond where the drainage should be built – in land grabbing madness, without a vision for the future.
