The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, undeterred by the recalcitrance of the executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf, has continued his “clean up” of the agency by suspending eight top management staff of the agency, days after he suspended Mr. Yusuf over corruption allegations.
However, Yusuf had refused to obey the minister’s order, saying that only the president has the powers to discipline him.
A statement released on Monday by the Health Ministry said the suspension of the officers was to pave the way for a thorough investigation of the agency and the affairs of its suspended executive secretary, Yusuf.
Those suspended are: Olufemi Akingbade, the General Manger, Zonal Coordinator South South Zone; John Okon, General Manager, Finance Account; Yusuf Fatika, the General Manager, Human Resources and Administration; and Shehu Adamu, the Assistant General Manager, Audit.
Also suspended are Vincent Mamdam, the Assistant General Manager, Head Insurance; Safiyanu Attah – Senior Assistant Officer, Marketing; Owen Udo Udoma, Senior Manager, Contribution Management; and Innocent Abbah, Senior Assistant Officer, Planning Research and Monitoring.
Mr. Adewole directed the acting executive secretary of the agency, Attahiru Ibrahim, to ensure the immediate implementation of the suspension order.
