At least 37 persons have been reported killed in a fresh clash between farmers and herdsmen in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State, roughly 60 kilometres away from the state capital.
CHECKPOINTCHARLEY understands that the fresh violence erupted between farmers and herders on Sunday as some Fulani youths went to a village at Ungwan Uka to avenge the killing of a Fulani herdsman said to have been killed few days back by some Kadara youths at a farm in Banono village.
One of the Kadara youths confirmed the killings to the Nation. But he said the Fulani man that was killed was a known criminal, who has been harassing the people of the area.
The Kaduna State Police is yet to confirm casualties figure.
However, the acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Yakubu Sabo (ASP) said the police and the army have been drafted to the village and that they have brought the situation under control.
Mr. Sabo said, “not only the police but the joint patrol comprising the police and army are still there and situation has been brought under control. I spoke with them this afternoon and they confirmed to me they’re still there, there is no way this type of thing will happen and we will just withdraw like that.”
