
The Nigeria Police on Wednesday killed two members of a four-man armed kidnap syndicate who had been terrorizing Aba and neigbouring towns. The two were killed in a shootout with the police as detectives attached to Omoba Division stormed the kidnappers’ den at Ovungwu, Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, acting on a tip-off.
The kidnappers had on July 18, 2017, in Osisioma Ngwa abducted a man identified as Onyemaechi Mbamaonyeukwu Ijeoma, Managing Director of Mba Hotels Aba in his ash colour Nissan Infinity SUV with Reg. No. GWA 807 DH and held him hostage in an uncompleted building at Umuajuju Ovungwu and were negotiating for a ransom.
But acting on a tip off, the police operatives stormed the hoodlums’ hideout and the gang opened fire on seeing the policemen.
After the shootout ended, two of the Kidnappers, later identified as Nwadibia and Monday were neutralized, while the rest escaped but not without bullet wounds.
The victim, Mr. Ijeoma was rescued unhurt, however one of his rescuers sustained injuries.
The victim’s SUV, two motorcycles, and four GSM phones were said to have been recovered.
