US President Donald Trump has fired his controversial White House strategist, Steve Bannon, seen by many Americans as racist.

This comes few days after Charlotesvile, and on the heels of many Trump administration officers leaving. Bannon became the fifth high-profile casualty in Trump’s inner circle in just six months, following the sack of National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, press secretary Sean Spicer, chief of staff Reince Priebus and communications director Anthony Scaramucci.

Bannon has been having personality clashed with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is an advisor to the US president.

Two administration officials first confirmed his sack to CNN. He was reportedly accused of promoting himself and not putting the president’s agenda first.

The White later released a statement announcing Bannon’s humiliating exit.

“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day,” spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said. “We are grateful for his service and wish him the best,” the statement said.

Bannon, the former head of ultra conservative outlet Breitbart News, joined the Trump campaign about three months before the November 2016 vote and was said to have played a major role in the shock victory over Hillary Clinton.

But Trump’s new chief of staff, Kelly had reportedly warned he would not tolerate what he saw as Bannon’s behind the scenes maneuvering.

And Trump was said to be infuriated about an interview with American Prospect, in which his aide contradicted his own position on North Korea, among other things.

Bannon’s sack comes as Trump is under enormous fire over his failure to unequivocally rebuke white supremacists for the violence in Charlottesville, which claimed the life of a 32-year-old protester, Heather Heyer.
