President Buhari Cancels FEC Meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari

President, who said he will be working from home after he returned from a medical vacation in the United Kingdom on Saturday,  has cancelled the meeting of the Federal Executive Council that was supposed to hold today.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina via a statement. He did not however give reason for the cancellation. But Mr. Adesina hinted that his boss would today receive the report of the investigation committee into the allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke.

The statement read, “The meeting of the Federal Executive Council will not hold today.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, will however, receive the Report of the investigation committee into the allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, at 12 noon, in his office.”

The cancellation of the meeting, which holds every Wednesday, would again raise questions as to how fit the president is. Especially bearing in mind that he has not presided over FEC meeting for over three months.

Mr. Buhari has been operating from an office in his residence since Monday, after the Presidency claimed that his main office had been destroyed by rodents and and needed to be renovated.

The President had on April 19 suspended Lawal and Oke and constituted a three-man committee led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to probe them.

The panel had  investigated allegations of violations of law and due process made against Lawal in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East, Oke was probed in connection with the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.
