It appears the outburst by Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan that she would support former vice president Atiku Abubakar for president in 2019 instead of Mr. Muhammadu Buhari is unsettling the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC.
The unity of the ruling party seems to have cracked by Alhassan’s statement and the claim by Atiku that he was sidelined by the Buhari Government after he helped them win the 2015 general election. And there is now an infighting within the party.
This came to the fore on Friday when Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai said that President Buhari was warned by the APC leadership against appointing Alhassan as a minister.
He said this while speaking with State House Correspondents at the Villa.
Mr. El-Rufai lambasted the minister for being disloyal to the President, saying that she was never a Buhari supporter but a loyalist of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
The governor claimed that Alhassan did not also vote for Buhari during the APC presidential primary.
