A reliable source has informed CHECKPOINTCHARLEY that angry thugs Thursday morning burnt down the police station at the popular Ariaria market, Aba Abia State.
A yet to be named NDLEA officer is said to have been killed and the detainess at the station set free.
The source also said there were sporadic shootings through out the morning but the situation has calmed down as at the time of filing this report.
Most markets in the city and other businesses have been shut down and people are indoors as youth unrest spread in the city.
It is gathered that this may not be unconnected with rumours that went viral in the wee hours of today that soldiers burnt houses and killed some residents of Umuode near Aba and its environs.
