The danger of travelling on Nigerian roads was highlighted Thursday night as over 30 persons were crushed to death and 10 others injured in a fatal auto accident along the Lagos-Ibadan highway.
Spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Bisi Kazeem, disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja, saying that the accident occurred around 8pm at Km 95 in the Elebolo Quary Area on the Ibadan axis of the road.
He stated the crash was a collision of two Mazda buses.
Mr. Kazeem said, “The crash occurred at a construction site, and it resulted from route and speed violations.
“This has further underscored the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi’s advice to motorists to avoid night journeys, be careful around construction sites and drive within approved speed limits.”
According to him rescue operations by the FRSC officials, who arrived at the scene minutes after the incident, ended at 2:42am on Friday.
