Obiano Meets Buhari Ahead Of Anambra Election Despite IPOB Threat

Governor Obiano

Despite the threat by the purportedly proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, that there will be no election, Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano on Tuesday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja ahead of the state governorship poll, scheduled to hold on November 18.

The governor, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, boasted to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, that he would win the forthcoming election with a landslide.

He however urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to be impartial in the conduct of the election.

Mr. Obiano said all necessary measures were being taken to ensure a peaceful election.

“Anambra remains the safest state in Nigeria today. We don’t have cases of kidnapping, armed robbery or similar crimes. We have been firmly in control of that state and will continue to do so throughout my tenure as governor.

“I am very confident that I will win the forthcoming election with a landslide.

“All we want is for the umpire (INEC) to be unbiased. A free and fair election is what we want and we will get the result.”

IPOB, has continued to threaten that the Anambra election will not hold.

The pro-Biafra group is calling for civil disobedience and asking people in the state to sit at home on the day of the election.

According to the group there would be no more election in “Biafra land” until a referendum is conducted to allow the South East people decide if they still want to be part of Nigeria.
