The Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday awarded N2million to Okwuchukwu Obiechina, brother-in-law of suspected billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, for wrongful police arrest and unlawful detention.
Justice Mohammed Idris held that Mr. Obiechina’s arrest and detention by the police was unconstitutional.
The suit was filed last Tuesday and Obiechina and his wife, Nzube, had challenged their illegal detention by the police.
They had been in detention since June 2 because of their relationship with Evans, they told the court.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, the Nigeria Police and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were joined in the case co-respondents.
