Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday distanced himself from attempts by President Muhammadu Buhari government to link him with the scandalous return of fugitive former pensions boss, Abdulrasheed Maina to the country and to a senior position in public service.
Mr. Jonathan said the fact that efforts are being made to link him to the return and reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina showed how “uncoordinated and rudderless” the Buhari administration has become.
“Are they saying it is President Jonathan that flew him back into Nigeria and promoted him in two levels ahead of where he was as at 2013 when he fled the from civil service?” Mr. Jonathan’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze said.
“They should stop insulting Nigerians or seeing them as fools,” Mr. Eze added.
Maina was dismissed in 2013 by the Jonathan administration on allegations of steaing billions in public funds for his own use when he headed the pension reform task force.
The EFCC had declared him wanted but Maina fled abroad.
On Wednesday, Maina’s family said in Kaduna that it was the Buhari’s administration that lured their son back to join its Change agenda.
