Impressive Wozniacki Beats Venus Williams To Win WTA Finals

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki on Sunday in Singapore beat Venus Williams in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to win the WTA Finals.

It is the biggest career win of the in-form Dane, who has been in impressive form.

Wozniacki, ranked sixth in the world, had never beaten Venus, the sister of her very close friend Serena, in their seven previous meetings. But this time,  she broke Williams’ serve six times to seal victory in just under 90 minutes.

The 37-year-old Williams, the tournament’s oldest-ever finalist, was bidding to regain the trophy after a nine year wait.

Wozniacki has been in amazing form, beating Elina Svitolina and Simona Halep at the group stage and Karolina Pliskova in the semi-finals.

The victory is her second this season after she won last month’s Pan-Pacific Open in Tokyo.

With the absence of her friend Serena, she would now be the one to beat at the Australian Open.
