The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris has filed a libel suit at Abuja High Court, seeking N5bn damages for alleged defamation from Senator Hamman Misau.
In the suit filed by counsel to Idris, Marcel Oru, the IGP prayed the court to award cumulative aggravated and exemplary damages of N5bn against the lawmaker.
Recall that the Federal Government, through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, had earlier preferred criminal charges against the senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District for allegedly spreading “injurious falsehood” against the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force.
Mr. Misau had publicly accused the IGP of corruption and unethical practices.
The libel suit will be heard by the Chief Judge of the court, Justice Jude Okeke and he has fixed for November 13, 2017 for the hearing of the case.
