Court Voids Ndume’s Suspension From The Senate

Former Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume, on Friday said a judgment from a Federal High Court in his favour has nullified his suspension by the Nigerian Senate.

Mr. Ndume stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja, saying what the Senate considered as his offence was not one that attracts suspension in the Senate Standing Rules.  The Senator representing Borno-South said the maximum duration a lawmaker could be suspended is 14 days.

According to him, he approached the court for declaratory judgement for historic reasons, so that it will be on record that his suspension was illegal.

In any case, he announced that the Clerk to the Senate had written to him, notifying him of his eligibility to to resume at the red chamber on Wednesday.
