Former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has expressed his disbelief that one of Nigeria’s best footballers, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha never won the African Player of the Year award throughout his football career.
Enyeama took to Twitter to question why Okocha was kept away from the award after Mohammed Salah of Liverpool FC and Eygpt was named the winner of the 2017 African Player of the Year on Thursday.
He twitted, “One thing that I find hard to believe is why @IAmOkocha never won the @CAF_Online footballer of the year.he was just exceptional with the ball.”
Okocha is rated by many as one of the greatest African players of all time but never won the prestigious award.
On three occasions he was however close to winning the African Player of the Year award.
