The police in Edo state have arrested the security guard, who connived with eight others on Saturday to stab his employer, Afisatu Ajuya to death, so as to steal her properties.
After allegedly killing the woman, a Major in the Nigerian Army, they then set her body ablaze at her home on Ugiagbe stree, off First Ugbor road in Oredo local government area of Edo state.
Ajuya, had reportedly returned from a trip outside the state on the day of the incident and was received by her security guard who is a hausa man. The guard helped her to take her traveling bag into her house where she lived alone as her children are said to be residing abroad.
It is alleged that the guard sneaked into the house later at night with his accomplices, stabbed the woman multiple times with metal objects and then began to move some of her properties.
They later set her body on fire in their bid to cover the crime. After which, the guard called neighbors that their home was on fire.
While the neighbors that came were trying to rescue the woman, one of them saw the guard moving some of her properties into a nearby uncompleted building.
Foul play was suspected and the guard was apprehended and handed him over to the police.
The state Commissioner of police, Johnson Kokumo, confirmed the incident and said the matter is being investigated as a clear case of murder.
He said, “Yes, it was a clear case of murder. The lady was killed for no just cause by the hoodlums, who afer killing her, set her house on fire to cover up their crime.”
However, he could not confirm if the deceased was a major in the Nigerian Army.
