Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday registered his membership of the new Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CMN) that is already gaining tremendous popularity in the country.
Dr. Obasanjo registered at the Secretariat of the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oke – Ilewo, Abeokuta, the state capital.
He stormed the facility Thursday afternoon, accompanied by armed security Operatives, politicians including former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, ex-Governor Donald Duke(Cross Rivers), former minister, Mrs Dupe Adelaja, opinion leaders and hundreds of enthusiastic residents eager to register their membership of CMN.
After registering his membership by 12:52pm, the former president said it has become imperative for the nation to “rethink and retool the way” things are done today if the country hoped to witness true development, unity, cooperation and unity.
The former PDP leadder said Nigeria must change for better. The real change must be brought about by the nation’s youth and women who were often the direct victims of things that weren’t working well, he said.
In his view, the registration was a very important ceremony as a follow up to the earlier letter issued by him about the state of the nation where he also offered his piece of advice.
“This will be a movement of the people, CN will emerge victorious in 2019”, he predicted.
Though CMN is not yet a political, Obasanjo’s comment shows that the coalition will register to become a political party.
CMN was launched on Wednesday at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja with former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Donald Duke were in attendance.
It followed Obasanjo’s scathing letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, accusing the latter of nepotism, incompetence and poor leadership, among other things.
