The Federal High Court in Wawa Cantonment, Kainji, Niger State on Monday sentenced one of the Chibok school girls abductors, Haruna Yahaya to 15 years imprisonment for participating in the abduction of the school girls and other terrorism offences.

The 35-year-old Yahaya had pleaded guilty to the charges of terrorism filed against him by the Federal government of Nigeria.

During trial, Yahaya pleaded with the court to show him mercy, saying that members of the sect had come to his shop at Damboa to force him to join them and he joined because he feared would be killed if he refused.

He narrated how on the day the Chibok school girls were abducted, one of the girls, Mariama, begged him to free her but tat he told the girl that himself was also abducted by the sect members.

However, the court was not moved by Yahaya’s narratives, sentencing to 15 years behind bars.
