More than 200 persons are now homeless and dozens others still missing after suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Tse Sumaka and Tse Atorough Vishigh in Mbadwem Council Ward of Guma, Benue State on Sunday night.
An eyewitness said the heavily armed herdsmen invaded the villages, shooting indiscriminately and burnt at least 20 houses.
This comes barely two weeks after the formal launching of the Operation Ayem Akaptuma (Cat Race) in the state.
Villagers have reportedly deserted their home for fear of being killed.
“As we speak, I am in a bush with my family. They (attackers) burnt our house and attacked my brother with machete, I don’t even know if he is dead or alive, please inform the police,” one escapee told Daily Post.
The Benue State police spokesman, Moses Yamu was unavailable for comments.
