The Presidency on Wednesday confirmed the release of students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State who were abducted by the Boko Haram terrorists on February 19.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed this in an interview.

“Yes, the girls are being transported to safety. We will give details later. We thank God,” the presidential spokesman said.

This comes hours after Amnesty International accused the Nigerian military of not doing anything to prevent the girls’s abduction, despite several calls to troops about the looming attack by Boko haram fighters.

It is yet unclear if any ransom was paid by the federal government to secure the girls’ freedom.

But an online news platform reported that Boko Haram returned the pupils kidnapped from Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, some weeks ago.

According to SaharaReporters, the terrorist group came with the girls in nine vehicles – same way they took them, with such ease despite the heavy militarization of the North-East.

Five of the girls are feared dead, it added.
