Five SARS Operatives Arrested, Detained In Lagos After Zenith Bank Bribe Extortion Drama

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest and detention of five operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, for allegedly harassing a businessman, Immanuel Ibe-Anyanwu when they seized his company documents in bribe extortion drama.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, disclosed this and said the men were attached to the Ipakodo base of SARS.

He said the culprits are Inspector Taiwo Omojope, Inspector Arigidi Ebibor, Sergeant Rotimi Adesoba, Sergeant Olalekan Olakunle and Sergeant Friday Oni. The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, was reported to have ordered that the policemen be identified and arrested, Oti said.

Recall that the businessman had gone to a Zenith Bank branch at Ago-Palace Way, Okota- Lagos, for a transaction when he was approached by one of the cops who took him to where their operational vehicle was parked.

According to the victim after searching his car and going through his documents without finding anything incriminating, the SARS men ordered him to enter the vehicle and take them to his office in Ikoyi, Lagos.

However, the policemen release him after the mediation of a resident but they were said to have demanded money from him.

Mr. Ibe-Anyanwu was said to have sneaked into the toilet of the bank on the pretext of going to withdraw money for the cops, from where he shared his ordeal on Social Media.

The policemen reportedly removed the number plate of his car after waiting for hours.

But the 37-year-old victim said he was forced to enter his car and speed off after bank workers forced him to leave the premises.
