The Nigerian Senate has officially accused Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of being the mastermind behind the invasion of the Senate plenary on Wednesday morning by persons suspected to be thugs.
The mace was forcefully taken away by the invaders.
In its verified Twitter handle, The Nigerian Senate, the authorities wrote:
“Today, some hoodlums led by suspended Senator @OvieOmoAgege walked into the Senate plenary and seized the symbol of authority of the Upper Legislative Chamber, the mace.
“This action is an act of treason, as it is an attempt to overthrow a branch of the Federal Governemnt of Nigeria by force…”
Senator Omo-Agege is currently on 90-day suspension for accusing his colleagues of targeting President Muhammadu Buhari by seeking to amend the Electoral Act 2010 to reorder the sequence of polls in next year’s general election.
He is the unofficial leader of pro-Buhari senators.
