CHECKPOINTCHARLEY has been informed that the embattled senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has been arrested at the Abuja airport.
Mr. Melaye was last night arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport.
It is understood that he was on his way to Morocco for an official international assignment.
The senator and other passengers had reportedly boarded the plane and the aircraft was about to taxi when policemen were said to have stopped the take-off, asking the passengers to disembark from the plane.
Melaye also confirmed his arrest on his official Twitter handle.
He Tweeted: “I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Govt after checking in.”

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) also confirmed the arrest of Senator Melaye
Spokesman of the Service, Mr Sunday James, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Melaye was arrested by Immigration officials “based on instruction”.
Recall that The Kogi Police Command had recently declared him wanted in relation to a murder case.
The senator had always said that his political enemy, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello was acting in concert with the police to frame him up.
Melaye has been a very vocal voice at the Nigerian Senate and his arrest could be seen by critics as a crackdown on dissent as the 2019 general elections looms.
