The embattled senator, representing Kogi West at the National Assembly has been arrested by operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad on Tuesday morning.
The lawmaker was arrested and subsequently detained in a facility located opposite the old CBN junction along the Area 1 Expressway.
The SARS detention facility is where hardened criminals arrested for theft, murder, cultism and other criminal acts are kept.
Recall that there were attempts on Monday by the police to arrest Senator Melaye after immigration officials ejected him from a Morocco bound flight.
After he was released by the immigration officers at the airport, the lawmaker’s house was besieged by over 90 armed policemen from yesterday until the early hours of Tuesday.
The senator had told this Blog that his brother and a friend of his brother were arrested during the siege.
