Melaye Accuses Nigeria Police Of Rights Abuse, Says Relatives Held In Custody Without Trial

The embattled Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has revealed gross human rights abuses perpetrated by the Nigerian Police when he spoke for the first time from his hospital bed since his arrest on Tuesday.

The lawmaker twitted on Wednesday, how the police arrested and detained some of his relatives without trial since Monday.

He also alleged that he has been denied access to his family, lawyers and food in police custody.

Mr. Melaye is currently been held by the Police while on admission at the National Hospital in Abuja after sustaining injuries he claimed was inflicted on him by police operatives while trying to escape from custody.

The police were taking him to court in Kogi to face charges, when he reportedly jumped out of the vehicle.

He twitted, “Samuel Melaye, Moses Melaye, Pastor Obalemo, my driver Folorunsho, one of my lawyers and seven others arrested since Monday by the police still in detention by the police

“Melaye is at the intensive care unit of the national hospital. Trauma section

“Denied access to my lawyers, family members and food for the past more than 24hours.”
